Nancy Pierce Chaney, 77, of Clifton, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2008. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Grand Old Gospel Lighthouse Church. Burial will be at Clifton Cemetery next to her husband. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nancy Elizabeth was born in Clegg, Texas, to the late C. Pierce and Annie Kelley Pierce. She married Perney Chaney on Nov. 16, 1946, in Goldthwaite. They spent most of their married life in and around Clifton. She was an active member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Clifton.

Nancy attended the Archer & Holt School of Nursing in Meridian and graduated in 1960, receiving her LVN. She continued her studies in nursing and in May 1979, she received her RN degree from McLennan Community College in Waco. With her degree behind her, she was able to do what she loved to do and that was to touch lives in a very special way through nursing. She was a member of the Tri-County League of Texas, Licensed Vocational Nurses Association, and a charter member of the National Association Directors' of Nursing Administration/Long Term Care, and was certified in geriatrics from 1982 to 2002. In 1977, she served as speaker of the house and in 1978-1979, served as president of the Licensed Vocational Nurses Association. She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the MOPH Auxiliaries.

After retiring, she continued to work part-time at the Clifton Care Nursing Home and Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home, where she had been employed for 31 years in various nursing positions. She also worked part-time for Hospice Sunset.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perney Chaney, on May 21, 2004; brothers, Berry Pierce, of San Saba, Bill Pierce, of Clifton, Ben Pierce, of Clifton, John Pierce, of Midland; and sister, Jewel Riggs, of San Saba.

Survivors include sons, Allen Chaney and wife, Martha, and Gordon Chaney and wife, Marge, of Clifton; daughters, Marsha Evans and husband, Curtis, and Kelly Mahoney and husband, Richard, of Clifton; grandchildren, Scott Wood and wife, Sara, Allen Evans and wife, Raylene, Michael Evans, Nancy Evans Truitt and husband, Eddie, Angie Evans, Richard Allen Chaney and wife, Barbara, Karen Denise Chaney, Ralisa Randall and husband, Ron, Christina McCourt and husband, Eric, Jeremy Barree, and Rebecca Mahoney; great-grandchildren, Tyler Wood, Tara Wood, Cody Evans, Jamie Quinn Evans, Miranda Briniger, Dustin Randall, Shane Randall, Garrett Randall, Caden Austin Ryan Evans, Taylor McCourt, Steven McCourt, Gracie Nichole Kessler, Mikel-Ann Thorne Evans, and Conner Allen Chaney; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends..
