Wayne T. Adkinson, 73, of Rochelle, Georgia, died Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Graveside services were held 2 PM, Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Salem Cemetery, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, with the Rev. Bobby Richey and William "Bill" Smathers officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Adkinson was born April 22, 1949, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late John Henry & Elizabeth Driver Adkinson. He graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1969. Mr. Adkinson was a famer, a mechanic, a truck driver and a pilot. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Jo Adkinson of Rochelle; a son, John Wayne Adkinson of Rochelle; a brother, Bobby & Ann Adkinson of Abbeville; three sisters-in-law: Mary & Bill Smathers of Slayden, Tennessee, Hazel & Curtis Brown of Abbeville and Debra Reaves of Rochelle and a brother-in-law, Johnny Reaves of Abbeville. Several nieces and nephews also survive along with his bulldog, Boss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Lorena Driver and Juanita Richey and four brothers: John D. Adkinson, Otis T. Adkinson, William Lawrence Adkinson and James Adkinson.
