Mark Edward "Stone Cold "Merritt, passed away on April 30, 2022.

He was born on June 30, 1970.

Mark was, is, and always will be one of the brightest lights to ever grace this world. His laugh was big, his heart even bigger. He was a husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and much more to those he called his chosen family. He loved his wife and his momma deeply but aggravated them just as much. Whether through pranks played or not so flattering photos taken.

He was a pain in the butt, however if he didn't tease you he didn't care for you. He loved weight lifting (he'd say he was a beast in these streets) and working in the logging woods. From the time he was a child until the day he died he filled a lot of his time on the Ouachita River fishing. A little bit of that muddy water ran through his veins. He also love rapping Tupac, calling his momma everyday, and his sweet fur babies-especially BG.

Mark could give you the biggest belly laughs and always made sure whoever was around felt loved, accepted, and included. Mark advocated through his own testimony that rehabilitation and beating addiction was an attainable goal. He completely transformed his life and he wanted everyone to know they could as well. Mark worked hard for everything he had and believed it's not what you have, it's who you have. Mark spent his last day doing the thing he loved the most with who he loved the most. His light, love, and laugh will remain in our heart to carry us through.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Bentley Shackleford; his grandparents, Geraldine Marshall and Curtis Marshall; his great-grandmother, Berna Mae "Nannie" Williams; his uncle, Thomas "Tommy" Merritt; his cousin, Robert "Bobby" Merritt; and his friend, Ricky Byrd.

Mark is survived by his wife, Paula "Wuvy" Merritt; his sons, Robert Shackleford of East Camden, AR and Brooks Merritt (DeAnne) of Hampton, AR; his daughters, Leslie Green (Drew) of Ward, AR and Elizabeth Vaughan of Fayetteville, AR; seven grandchildren; his mother, Laura Merritt of Hot Springs, AR; his father, Edward "Bud" Merritt (Sharon) of Hot Springs, AR; his brothers, Chad Merritt (Dorian) of Los Gatos, CA and Casey McKnight (Tish) of Smackover, AR; his aunt, Connie Sue Lester of Camden, AR; his brother-in-law, Stan Shackleford of Greenwood, MS; his sisters-in-law, Carol Shackleford (Tommy) of South Haven, MS and Candace Philyaw (Dave) of South Haven, MS; nine nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

The memorial services will be held in Proctor Funeral Home.
