She was born November 8, 1927 in Hays, Kansas, to Lawrence L. and Mary (Brungardt) Brown. On July 7, 1953, she married Joseph P. Carroll, who preceded her in death on April 23, 1985. Theirs was a love like no other; they adored each other.

Mary Alice attended Girls Catholic High School and Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kansas. She met the love of her life in Chicago while working for American Airlines. They moved to Hays, then Lawrence, Kansas, where she worked for the Dean of Students at the University of Kansas while her husband attended KU. Upon graduation, they moved to Kearney, where she lived for the next 53 years. She worked at Kearney Catholic High School for 50 years as secretary and book keeper, retiring at age 87, just before moving to Arizona. She formed many cherished friendships throughout her years at Kearney Catholic. She moved to Peoria, Arizona in February 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed her new home in the desert Southwest.

Mary Alice enjoyed reading, watching college basketball, and cheering on her beloved Kansas Jayhawks to a 2022 NCAA championship! She loved knitting, sewing, cross stitch, Soduko, logic problems, chocolate, and her Ave. F Coffee Group. She loved to talk and made friends wherever she went. Her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She was an amazing grandma, affectionally known as Granny and G-Mac. She is dearly missed.

Survivors include daughters Jody Girard of Kearney and Jane Falk and her husband, Randy Anderson, of Peoria, Arizona; grandchildren Brian Girard, his wife Hiromi and their children Kaede and Jun of Evans, Georgia; Becky (Girard) Kotschwar, her husband Jeff and their children Audrey and Makenzie of Fort Polk, Louisiana; Danny Girard and his fiancé Amber Graves of Seattle; Mary Falk and Molly Falk of Peoria, Arizona; and brother Gerald Brown of New York City.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and six siblings.
