Stephen Roszel Wheeler, 86, went to meet the Lord and reunite with his beloved wife, Betty Lou on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
A Norfolk native, Steve was born at home September 1, 1935, on May Avenue to the late Elmer P. Wheeler, Sr., and Mary Frances Moore Wheeler. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School thru the 8th grade and graduated from Maury High School in 1954. Steve served two years in the United States Army and then worked for more than 40 years with AT&T as a communications technician.
Steve and Betty Lou Townsend were united in marriage on January 27, 1962 and shared over 59 happy years together until her passing on October 8, 2021. Besides his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his son, Stephen R. Wheeler, Jr.; sisters, Mary R. Bowden and Dorothy W. Stone; brother, Joseph L. Wheeler and his wife Betty; sister-in-law, Patsy Wheeler; and several other family members.
Steve will be immensely missed by many family and friends, including his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Maurice Field; grandchildren, Sunshine and Samuel; brother, Elmer P. (Buddy) Wheeler, Jr., and brother, Edward B. Wheeler and wife Yvonne.
A short graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Forest Lawn Cemetery (8100 Granby Street Norfolk, VA).
