Gail Madsen Foster Thompson, 75, of Davenport, Iowa passed away peacefully on February 26, 2022, with her family by her side. Services will be Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 2 pm at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the ALS Foundation. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.

She was born September 23, 1946, in Anamosa, IA, the daughter of Hubert and Anna Mae (Madsen) Foster. Gail graduated from Clinton High School in 1964.

After high school, she married the late Larry Thompson in 1967, and they had two sons together; Rob and James Thompson, they were together for 12 years. After years of being the greatest single mother to her sons, she found the love of her life, Robert Van Hyfte, they were married in 1998, sadly her newfound love passed away shortly after their marriage. She vowed never to marry again and dedicated her life to her family, grandkids, and great-grandkids that were the love of her life.

Gail worked at the Rock Island Arsenal as a Contract Specialist for 30+ years and received numerous awards for her achievements. She retired from the Arsenal in 2012.

Those left to honor her memory are her sons, Robert (Heather) Thompson, Calamus, Iowa; James Thompson, Davenport; eight grandchildren: Jordan Powers, Bryce Thompson, Mickenzie Studer, Justin Thompson, Madison Thompson, Abigail Thompson, Grace Thompson, Gabriella Thompson; seven great-grandchildren: Karsten, Jace, PJ, Aaliyah, Brody, Lyla, Lennox; brother, Tom Foster, Clinton Iowa; nephews, Keith (Shelly) Foster, Jason Foster, Brian (Mary) Gruver, Bruce Gruver, and Chuck Gruver; nieces, Laura Evans and Shannon (Carl) Spradlin.
