Steven Eugene Stanley, 71, of Albany, passed away Wednesday May 11, 2022 at his home following a long battle with cancer.

Steve was born in Muncie, IN on September 10, 1950 to the late Calvin and Lorene Stanley. Steve graduated from Muncie Central High School before joining the United States Air Force in 1968. Steve was a Crew Chief on a Bomber and had many duty stations throughout the world. Steve was a Vietnam Veteran and was Honorably Discharged in 1972 as a SSGT. Steve joined the Muncie Police Department in 1974. He worked as a Patrolman, SWAT Team Member, Hostage Team Negotiator, Narcotics Investigator, Violent Crimes Investigator, and Supervised both Uniform and Detectives Division. Steve was referred to by many in the Law Enforcement Community as one of the best and most savvy Detectives in Muncie Police Department history. He retired as a Lieutenant after 29 years of service to the citizens of Muncie. Steve owned Stanley's Lawn Care, Inc., along with his son Seth, for 25 years. Steve later joined the Ball Memorial Hospital Police Dept. and worked there until his lung cancer diagnosis in 2020.

Steve loved to read, fish, play guitar and sing, work on projects, and spend time with family and friends. Steve had charm, wit, and told a great story. You could always catch him with a smile on his face or giving you that "Stanley Look". Steve was a man of God, Honor, and Country.

Steve is survived by his wife Betty Dye; three sons, Matt Stanley, Seth Stanley (wife Nikki), and Kirt Stanley (wife Danielle); six grand-children Cameron Stanley, Samantha Stanley, Emah Stiglitz, Avery Stanley, Shawn Stanley, and Dominick Stanley; a sister Linda Elliott (husband Jim); four step-siblings Tammy Marshall, Rhonda, Terry, and Mike Cravens; nephew James Elliott and niece Shellee Elliott; and many close friends.
