Garry Dean Owens, son of Willie Albert and Neva Lois Dedmon Owens, was born October 6, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, October 25, 2002, in his home, in Basehor, Kansas, at the age of forty-three years, and nineteen days.
On November 26, 1982, he was united in marriage to Erin Frances McMorrow, and to this union one daughter was born.
His parents and maternal and paternal grandparents all preceded him in death.
Garry is survived by his wife, Erin, of the home; a daughter, Lauren Owens, of the home; a stepson, J. T. Adkins, of the home; two brothers, Larry A. Owens, and his wife, Jackie, of Berthoud, Colorado, and Ronald G. Owens, and his wife, Jennifer, of Rockford, Illinois; two sisters, Joyce Whitaker, and her husband, Joe, of Cameron, Missouri, and Brenda Shirley, of Seymour, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; six aunts and uncles, G. A. Dedmon, and his wife, Virginia, of Mansfield, Missouri, Roy Dedmon, and his wife, Nelda, of Hartville, Missouri, Bill Dedmon, and his wife, Jean, of Ava, Missouri, Jack Dedmon, and his wife, Frances, of Mansfield, Missouri, Gaylen Dedmon, and his wife, Jackie, of the State of Washington, and Kay Patterson, of Marshfield, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Kansas City, Missouri area, and graduated from North Kansas City High School, in the Class of 1978. He then entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully for the next few years. During his time in the military, he attended Paratrooper School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to the Kansas City area, where he met and married Erin and they made their home in Basehor, Kansas. He attended American Motorcycle Academy, a trade school in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he ranked at the top of his class. For the last several years, Garry had worked as a cook for Victory Junction Restaurant.
Garry had made his profession of belief in Christ and was a member of the Word of Life Church. In the last few months, he relied upon his strong faith in his Savior to see him through.
He also was a member of the Gold Prospectors Association of America, and loved to treasure hunt. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where some of his favorite activities included hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. He greatly liked Harley Davidson motorcycles and had earned the nickname of "Motorcycle Man". He possessed a kind and tender heart and children were drawn to him and absolutely adored him. He loved all of his family dearly and was very involved in his daughter's and stepson's school activities, and even in Girl Scouts.
Garry was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and nephew, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Services will be held October 29, 2002 at 11:00a.m. in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville, Missouri. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, west of Hartville.

A memorial has been established to Mr. Owens' Daughters Education Fund. Contributions may be sent to the Funeral Home at P.O. Box 236, Hartville, MO 65667.
