He was raised in Calhoun County and married Beulah Bartholomew on August 20, 1960 in Durand, MI. Leonard and Beulah made their home in the Barryton area in 1969, where they raised their family.
Leonard was a great woodworker and loved to restore old cars. He was a good auto mechanic and looked forward to gardening when he was able. His children remember him playing the banjo and harmonica, as well as several fishing and hunting stories. Leonard was employed as a truck driver at Nabco in Reed City for many years.
Leonard will be deeply missed by his wife of 57 years, Beulah; five children, Christine (Craig) Carley, Brenda (Richard) Place, Leonard Bennett Jr., Etta Strong and Jennifer (Mike) Squires; two sisters, Eva Gregerson and Linda Jones; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, the Sunday Night Coffee Club gang; and many extended family and beloved friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his mother, Laura (Sam) McCabe; his dad, Vance Bennett; an infant daughter, Sherry; a brother, Floyd; and a sister, Norma Bagley.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Brinton Chapel in Lake. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, two hours prior to services, from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until 2:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at North Brinton Cemetery in Lake with a luncheon to follow at the church.
