Mr. Jackson was a member of The Mill Baptist Church. He loved his family dearly and was dedicated to caring for them and his late wife, Alice. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A 1957 graduate of Chapman High School. He also graduated from North Greenville Junior College, Furman University, and Auburn University with a Masters degree in U.S. History.
Mr. Jackson's career included 30 years in education as a U.S. History teacher and Assistant Principal at Jenkins Junior High School, Evans Junior High School, and McCracken Middle School. For the last three years of his career, he was the Principal of Fairforest Middle School.
Also, Mr. Jackson's activities included 25 years umpiring Little League and High School Baseball. He was one of the co-founders, and first President of Westside Boosters club. He was also a professional Putt-Putt player for 25 years.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his sons, Tony Jackson (Kim) of Pauline and Tim Jackson (Kalli) of Inman, SC, grandchildren, Catherine Elizabeth Jackson, Grant Richard Jackson, Aniston Teal Jackson, and GabbyAnn Ada Jackson, great grandchildren, Yaden Yates and Luna Yates, a sister-in-law, Eula Frances Whelchel, brothers-in-law, Tom Whelchel, Richard Whelchel, and Furman Whelchel (Faye), and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife of 54 years, Alice, he is predeceased by his parents, his brother, Glen "Butch" Jackson, sisters-in-law, Bettie Martha Whelchel, Carrie Rhetta Whelchel Mathis and Myra Jane Whelchel Byars, brothers-in-law, Mose Whelchel, Rufus Sims Whelchel, and Clifford Byars.
Visitation will be at 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Gene Pace. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
