Joyce "JoAnn" Mills, 81, of Belleville, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022 at her home. She was born in New Orleans, LA on April 27th, 1941.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Mayme Allen and her loving husband, Richard H. Mills, Sr. of 49 years.
She is survived by her children, Richard Mills, Jr. of Bolingbrook, IL and his children, Christi (Steve) of Seguin, TX and Casey (Steve) of Plainfield, IL; Elizabeth (Todd) Cheffer of Belleville, IL and their children, Keaton of Houston, TX, and Tori of Indianapolis, IN; Lynette (Daniel) Toenjes of Millstadt, IL and their children, Elliot (Haley) of Millstadt, IL, Carly of Columbia, IL, and Ethan of Chicago, IL; and Robert (Kathryn) Mills and their daughter Samantha of Fairview Heights, IL; great grandchildren, Kylie, Jacob, Liam, Carrie, Stephen and Ben.
JoAnn was adopted at birth and recently re-connected with her sister, Mary Van of CA. She was very excited to find Mary and other information about her early life and other siblings. JoAnn was a long-standing and active member of First Christian Church of Belleville, IL. JoAnn deeply loved her church family. She created weekly slideshows, organized decorating, and helped out wherever needed, especially in the nursery. She enjoyed travel and spending time with her Ladies Club and High School Reunion Committee. JoAnn was an enthusiastic sports fan, from the STL Cardinals to her grandchildren's events. Family was a priority and she enjoyed documenting every occasion with pictures. She was well known for her decorating and crafting skills - every holiday was well represented.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, May 16th, 2022 at First Christian Church, Belleville, IL. Funeral will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 17th, 2022 at First Christian Church, Belleville, IL, with an additional visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Belleville, IL. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Belleville, IL. PALLBEARERS
