He was killed and another soldier injured when their armoured Coyote vehicle hit a roadside bomb while on a reconnaissance patrol approximately 10 km north of Kandahar City in the Arghandab District.
Cpl Renaud joined the military in October 2004 and was on his first foreign deployment. He was enthusiastic about the mission which he felt was a way to make a difference in the world. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Blais, who is expecting their first child, and young stepson as well as his parents Jean-Marc Renaud and Johanne Tremblay, sister Caroline, extended family and many friends.
Recipient of Sacrifice Medal (posthumous)
He is the 77th soldier, along with a diplomat, to die since Canada first sent troops to Afghanistan in 2002.
Funeral service held on January 26, 2008 at Église Évangélique in Chicoutimi, Ville de Saguenay, QC.
