Son of William J. & Hulda (Albers) Menke.
For 70 years, he lived in the same house where he was born. During his childhood years, he attended Platte County School District #35 and farmed the land with his dad. On a trip to visit his brother John in northeast Iowa, Milton met Burnita Potratz. On December 8, 1945, in Summer, Iowa, the two were united in marriage. He brought her home to Nebraska, where they farmed.

Milton became a resident of Cottonwood House in 2004. Milton scoured auctions, garage sales, and antique malls, collecting a large variety of toy trucks and tractors.
