He was born July 11, 1919 in Kewanee son of Joe and Alice (Heeter) Orr.
He grew up on the farm with his two brothers and three sisters. He was a 1937 graduate of Wethersfield High School where his was a charter member of the Wethersfield Chapter FFA. Max was employed by the Illinois Ice Cream and Dairy Co, the Walworth Manufacturing Co, and also employed by the IME Co. in Galva, Il. as a machinist.
He married Jean Willetts on August 30, 1941 in Kahoka, Mo. They were blessed with 66 years together. She survives as well as one son Dennis Orr of Galva, one daughter Mrs. Janet (Ralph) Holt of Stevensville, MT. Max is also survived by seven grandchildren Dennis Jr. of Davenport, Iowa, Linda (Ed) Leaf of Aurora, Il, Darin Orr of Galva, Glen (Annette) Holt of Phoenix, AZ., Jeff (Erin) Holt of Vancouver, WA., Rebecca Holt of Stevensville, MT., Melissa (Nick) DeYoung of Victor, MT. Three great grandchildren Ashley, Max, and Jameson. Max is also survived by one brother Warren Orr of Santa Anna, CA, and two sisters Mrs. Jean (John) Jennings of Griswold, IA. and Mrs. Lois (Bob) Fisher of Kewanee, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Max was preceded in death by both parents, one brother Donald, and two sisters Gladys and Marion. Max served his country in the US Army as a Sergant in Command of an anti aircraft battery in New Guinea and the Trobriand Islands for twenty- nine months during WW II, and was awarded three Battle Stars.
Max spent many years farming in the Saxon area south of Kewanee. He was a volunteer fireman for the Kewanee Volunteer Fire Dept., as well as a member of the Wethersfield Township Board. He loved farming, and also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, mechanics, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Max also was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making items for family, friends and his church. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee, and also spent many hours volunteering with the Annual Christmas Display at Windmont Park.
Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
