Joseph was the son of Samuel Norwood Parsons and the former Emily Sawyer. He passed at the age of 41 years. Joseph Beals Parsons and Elizabeth Ellen Libby were United in Marriage on Jan. 4, 1860 in Portland, Cumberland County, Maine. They had six children, all born in Portland, Cumberland Co., Maine, Albert Dow Parsons, Mary Ella Parsons, Charlotte Rosene (Parsons) Harris, Samuel Norwood Parsons, Charles Henry Dow Parsons and Josephine Beals Parsons.

Joseph Beals Parsons had a sister Mary Elizabeth Parsons, B: June 9, 1835 D: Sept. 20, 1852. He also could have had a brother Sawyer but I haven't been able to find any info on him.

Enlisted in Company H, Maine 25th Infantry Regiment on 29 Sep 1862. Mustered out on 10 Jul 1863 at Portland, ME. He was a Pvt.

His wife, Elizabeth, received a $10 a month pension after he was shot and killed in the line of duty as a railroad detective.

The name was McParsons but on coming to America the Mc was dropped and the family name was then changed to Parsons.
