Edith Belle Cox, 101, Holton, died Jan. 13, 2008, at Medicalodges Jackson County. She was born Feb. 20, 1906, at Benton, the daughter of John James and Ortha May Hunt McGehe. She was a 1925 graduate of Holton High School. Mrs. Cox worked for Bolen Café, Deeter's Market, Holton Locker and Betty's Coach House Café. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Holton, United Presbyterian Women, VFW Auxiliary 1367 and Mary L. Bair American Legion Auxiliary 44 until it closed. She married William Andrew Cox on Feb. 28, 1925. He died in 1934. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Doris Irene Cox Metzke and Betty Lou Cox McGee; a sister, Emma Heitman; four brothers, Floyd McGehe, Earl McGehe, Jay McGehe and her youngest brother, Forrest Dean McGehe, who was killed May 13, 1945, in the Negros Islands during World War II. Survivors include two sons, Gene A. Cox and wife Mary, Hanover, Pa., and Richard Lee Cox and wife Dorothy, Holton: a son-in-law, Willis E. McGee, Holton; five grandsons, Michael L. McGee and wife Carol, Hoyt, Bruce A. Cox and wife Paula and David B. Cox and wife Teuka, all of Topeka, William M. Cox, Lawrence, and Tom Metzke and wife Cindy, Streeter, Ill.; three granddaughters, Carolyn McGee Jacobsen and husband Dale, Delia, and Jo McGee Ingels and husband Steve and Deb Cox D'Orvilliers and husband Dennis, all of Holton; 20 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and three nephews, David, Don and Bruce McGehe. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 16 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 15 at the funeral home.
