Norm went to Texas Tech, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and graduated in 1965 with a BBA degree in accounting. He married Rita Ann Rowntree on May 27, 1965 and moved to Fort Worth, where he began his accounting career with Pan American Petroleum. After working for Pan American in Fort Worth and Tulsa, he moved to Plano, where he worked as a tax accountant for Texas Instruments. In 1974 he joined United Cable Television, one of the pioneer companies in the cable television industry, as a tax accountant in their Tulsa, Oklahoma offices.
Norm and his family relocated to Denver, Colorado when United Cable moved its headquarters in August of 1977. United Cable merged with United Artists Communications in 1989 and Norm retired as head of the tax department and a vice-president of the company in 1993.
Norm is survived by his wife Rita Stephens of Goodyear, AZ; daughter Lauren Ananth and husband Peri of Olathe, KS; son Ryan Stephens and wife Liz of Centennial, CO; grandchildren KJ Rasheed, Drew Ervin, and Riley Ervin of Olathe, KS; Jackson and Sydney Stephens of Centennial, CO; sister Vickie Stephens of Broken Arrow, OK; and a large number of extended family members and friends who will forever remember Norman Stephens as the quiet, kind, generous, and caring man who embodied the term "gentleman."
