Helen D. Allen, 95, passed away on May 1, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Herbert L. Allen; her parents, Hattie Matilda and Thure Fabian Carlberg; two sisters, Anna Marie Miller and Elizabeth June Harding, and one brother, William James Carlberg.

Helen was a long time resident of Norfolk, Virginia. Her husband, Herbert, was a retired Naval Chief Petty Officer. For years Helen was a homemaker. When her girls were growing up, she sewed clothing for all three and other friends in the neighborhood. She was a good cook and later in life an avid reader. When her daughters got older, she worked part-time at a women's clothing store and later for 15 years at the Navy Exchange at Norfolk Naval Base. For the last 10 years, Helen lived at home with her daughter, Helen Elaine, who was her caregiver.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Helen Elaine Spitz (Dale Spitz), Linda A. Martin (John Martin), and Katheryn A. Brown (Richard Brown); one brother, Hilmer Alexis Carlberg (Friede Carlberg); four grandchildren, Richard Brown, Thomas Brown, Derek Spitz (Megan Spitz), and Jennifer Spitz; six great-grandchildren, Trevor Brown, Riley Brown, Kayla Brown, Kortney Brown, Savannah Spitz and Arabelle Spitz.

Helen's ashes will be laid to rest with her husband at Hampton Veterans Cemetery.
