He joined the US Army of 101st Airborne Division at age 18, serving 26 years including two tours in Vietnam. During his first tour, he received the Purple Heart medal for a combat injury. Once retired, John served 20 years with the Army Corp of Engineers.
John was a devoted husband and an amazing Dad. His love for golfing and fishing allowed him to make life-long friends. He also loved to work in his flower gardens. He enjoyed listening to Rev. Chuck Swindoll and Rev. Allistair Begg. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
John was born July 28, 1948, in Trion, GA, the son of the late James and Frances Brown Morgan.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline Dotson Morgan of Springville, TN; one son, James (Marianne) Morgan of Dover, TN; four grandchildren, Kamar, Leah, Amelia, and Daxton; one brother, Riley (Diane) Morgan of FL; two sisters-in-law, Chris Barr of Paris and Vanice Dotson of Dyersburg, TN; one brother-in-law, John (Ellie) Dotson of Memphis, TN; and many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, Jonathan Michael Morgan; two sisters, Elsie Lewis and Mindel Williams; one sister-in-law, Joann Harbor; and three brothers-in-law, Tom Barr, David Harbor and Don Dotson.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, TN 38242. Visitation will be Friday, May 13, 2022, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with the funeral service will beginning at 2:00 pm at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with John Dotson officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Dotson, Taylor Davenport, Doris Rowlett, Donald Dotson, Lynn Dotson, Ray Houston, Steve Powers, Darmon Dotson, and Patrick Koplin. Named as an honorary pallbearer is Kenneth Linsman.
His final resting place will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Paris, TN.
