Richard Spencer Robbins

Richard Spencer Robbins passed away in his home after a long and wonderful life. His life was filled with challenges, happiness, passions, and family. Richard was born July 12 1936, the 4th of four children, in Ogden Utah, to Lorenzo Wesley and Vennetta Spencer Robbins.

As a lad, he enjoyed his life on the farm in North Ogden, riding horses, fishing and climbing mountains. During his youth, he discovered the game of golf, which became his life's passion. Winning several tournaments and playing for the state of Utah in the national championship, he demonstrated great skill and his love for the game. He taught his sons to play and anyone else that would listen. He corrected more swings than a Pro. He continued to play until the last year of his life.

In his work life, he started as a draftsman and engineer. In time, he transitioned to management and then to recruiting for the aerospace industry. He enjoyed helping others find work and improve their situation.

Richard was a devoted family man. In June of 1959 He met and married the beautiful Marian Peterson of Provo in the Salt Lake Temple. According to him "Marian chased him until he caught her". They loved to travel together exploring many areas of the world. They loved to remodel houses and moved constantly. This allowed them to make new friends and expand their horizons. They played tennis and golf together for decades and shared fun times with close friends and family.

Together they raised three children and taught them to work hard and to play equally hard. He was always working and helping his kids in any way he could. He taught his family and others to waterski, snow ski, play tennis, fish and play together. He always felt spending time with his kids made them and him better. He always took great pride in his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.

On thanksgiving 1984, he was skiing with the family and after a fun day he fell and broke his neck resulting in his being paralyzed from the neck down. He demonstrated great patience by spending 7 weeks on a circle bed and 5 more weeks in a halo brace. Through his hard work, dedicated nurses, encouraging wife and a loving God, he returned to almost full activity. Though he was never quite the same, he returned to almost full activity, playing the golf and tennis he loved. In the last few years, he suffered and finally succumbed from the painful effects of bone cancer.

Richard grew to love the gospel of Jesus Christ and exemplified the attributes of a humble follower of Christ. He spent time helping in food pantries, volunteering for all assignments and giving service in any way he could. He loved to do indexing for family history research having done 10s of thousands of names. He also enjoyed going to the temple. He never considered himself as a teacher standing in front of a group but, those of us who knew him, know he was a master teacher by example.

Graveside Services and interment: Friday, May 6, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at the Elysian Gardens Cemetery 1075 E 4850 S Millcreek UT 84113.
