Hilda Scott Burton, 84, of Highlands, NC passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Born in Beaufort County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Weldon and Zettie Lamm Scott. Mrs. Burton retired from the Department of the Treasury U.S. Customs Service where she received numerous awards. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Junior Who's Who. She worked for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force and the US Embassy in Nassau Bahamas where she was a charter member of Zonta International. She was a member of the Highlands First Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member. Mrs. Burton is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bidd Ernest Burton; two daughters, Debra Burton Brown (Steven) of Massanutten, VA and Diana Burton Roth (Brian) of Staunton, Va.; one son , Bidd Eugene Burton (Beth) of Highlands, NC ; two sisters Dorothy Scott Brownfield ( Alvin), Brenda Scott Matkins (Phillip), and one brother William Thomas Scott ( Geraldine), all from Washington, NC. Four Grandchildren; Kristin Fierro and daughter Rebecca, Bidd Ethan Burton (Josephine), Aaron Burton, Craig Schultz (Elizabeth) & children.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Lois Scott Vincent and a brother, Oscar Weldon Scott, Jr.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December23, 2016 at Highlands First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Ford officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
