James R. "Jimmy" Curtis, 72, of Sweetwater passed away Monday, May 9, 2022 at Sweetwater Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 12, 2022 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Mike Woodard officiating. Interment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A family and friends visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 pm.
Jimmy was born December 28, 1949 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Willie O. and Bobbie V. (Hall) Curtis. He graduated from Wichita Falls Hirschi High School in 1968. He met and married his love for life Anita Elaine Carlile June 20, 1987 in Abilene, Texas. They moved to Sweetwater from Abilene in 1997.
Jimmy was a truck driver and had worked for Halliburton for 14 years. He drove as an independent for a time and then opened Kustom Krusin' Body Shop in Abilene. He also worked for Mission Life as a pre-need salesman and Whataburger in retirement as a maintenance man and server.
Jimmy was a member of Southwest Baptist Church in Wichita Falls and served in the Texas National Guard for 6 years. Jimmy was an artist and loved working with leather, copper and drawing. He was a musician, playing the bass guitar and banjo. His greatest passion was old cars and painting and building and flying R C Airplanes. Jimmy was an excellent and very particular paint and body man, as he was never satisfied until it was the perfect job.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Curtis of Abilene; sons, David Curtis of Iowa Park and Landon King and wife Staci of Sweetwater; daughter, Melanie Self of Wichita Falls; his sister, Brenda Smith and Joe of Argyle, Texas; grandchildren, Natalie Curtis and Justin Huerta, Skyler Curtis and Kaycen, Madison Self and Royce Vaughn III and Ryder Curtis. He is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren, Paisleigh Vaughn and Bryson and Brayden Huerta; 1 nephew, 1 niece and his brother-in-law, Eddie Carlile and John Raubaugh of Garland, Texas.
Jimmy is preceded in death his father on March 5, 2018; his mother on August 22, 2021; and a brother-in-law, Joe Szymanski.
