Floyd Beets Of Mountain View Dies
Floyd Franklin Beets, 75, an active community worker and former employe of Magnet Mills, died Saturday morning at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
He was an assistant supervisor in the finishing department at Magnet Mills and had retired in 1964 after having worked for the company for 41 years. Mr. Beets was among the organizers of the Anderson Community Improvement Program in the late 1940's and was the chairman of the Mountain View community chapter for several years. His chapter was the recipient of several awards during the years of his chairmanship. He had resided most of his life at the old Beets homeplace in the Mountain View community, leaving for only a short time as a young man to work in the North.
He was the son of the late Freeman and Mary Francis Bridgewater Beets.
Before becoming ill, he was an active church worker. He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at the Deep Springs Baptist Church. He also is remembered for the beautiful script work and hand lettering he did as a hobby. He and his wife Mrs. Janie Foust Beets, observed their 48th wedding anniversary on Dec. 11.
He is survived also by the sons, Floyd Beets Jr. of Heiskell, Kenneth Beets of Nashville, James Beets of South Clinton, two daughters, Mrs. Clarence ( Mary) Crawford of South Clinton, Mrs. Larry ( Betty) Black of Clinton, a brother, Leonard Beets of Riverside, Calif., and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral service held Monday at the Deep Springs Baptist Church and were conducted by the Rev. Larry Foust, the Rev. Cecil Hopson and the Rev. C.C. Webb. Burial was in the church cemetery.
