Ruth Hassman, 84, of Lincoln, formerly of Burlington, died at 5:00 PM Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Legacy Estates in Lincoln, NE.

Born July 15, 1936, in Clark County, MO, she was the daughter of Russell and Dorothy Dunn Pitford. On July 21, 1973, she married Richard D. "Dick" Hassman. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2014 after 40 years of marriage.

A long time resident of Burlington, Iowa, Ruth was co-owner of C-CAT Termite and Pest Management and Solar Imput, formerly Hassman Services for more than 44 years until she retired at age 77. She worked previously as an LPN at Sacred Heart hospital in Fort Madison, at the Army Ammunition Plant and at Bock's Greenhouse where she grew the roses.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and always made sure everyone was well fed. One of her favorite things was giving treats to the young ones. There was always cookies or ice cream at Grandma's.

She was an avid gardener. Whether it was vegetables, plants, or flowers she had a way of making everything flourish and her yard looked like a park. She had a soft spot for all animals, making sure that the birds and squirrels were always well fed and had water year round. She enjoyed putting out raisins for a robin on her deck that walked right up to the door to let her know he was there. She always had a treasured pet including dogs (Charcoal, Scotty and Oopie), cats (Baby Buttons, Missy and Mister), canaries (Lucky and Lovey), and even a miniature donkey (Jackson).

Ruth moved to Legacy Estates retirement village in 2018. She quickly made friends with other residents and the staff adored her. Since March 2020 she had devoted home health aides who provided care and compassion.

She is survived by her children, Tina (Lawrence) Ahrens, Dena (Randy Goble) McCulloch, Bob Boyle, Steve (Rebecca) Hassman and Kathy (Dan) Willams; grandchildren Melissa (Ahmad) Tumeh, Emily (Robert) Nichols, Danielle Ahrens, Kelly (Ryan) Hallgren, Anthony Boyle, Brandi Boyle, Tyler (Tina) McCulloch, Justin (Julie) McCulloch, Ben (April) Hassman, Julie (Josh Shimkin) Hassman, Amanda (Ed) Parker, Tasha Goble, Tara Goble; great-grandchildren Lily Nichols, Naomi Nichols, River Hallgren, Lincoln Hallgren, Gavin Hallgren, Madison Boyle, Luca Hassman, Madison Hassman, Payton Stevens, Bryer Stevens, Tyler Anderson, Alyssa Parker, Ava McCulloch, Aydren McCulloch, Makenna McCulloch, Macuen McCulloch, Ely McCulloch, Tayjuah Peoples, Kilee Peoples and Camden Peoples; one brother Charlie (Wini) Pitford; and two sisters, Betty Martin and Rose (John) Ragan.
She is also survived by her beloved canary, Lovey and a miniature donkey, Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Hassman, her parents, and three siblings.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
