Agnes Ella Ross

Agnes Ella Ross died on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 8:27 a.m., in Granite Mesa Nursing Home in Marble Falls.

Agnes was born in Stonewall, Texas on Dec. 17, 1926, to Adolf and Lydia Nebgen. She married Golden "Gunnie" Ross on May 17, 1952 in the St. Mary's Catholic Church rectory in in Fredericksburg.

Agnes loved playing music. She started playing the pump pedal organ at the age of 15 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stonewall. She played piano and accordion in several bands, even while still in high school. Her father organized a Western Swing band, The Stonewall Orchestra, for her and her sister, including other musicians from the Gillespie County area. They played in many dance halls across the Hill Country. She enjoyed going to dances when they were not playing and that was how she met Gunnie.

After getting married, she moved to Spicewood and lived on Fall Creek Road for 63 years. She worked with Gunnie, helping feed the animals as well as farming and ranching activities. She had grown up helping her father and family on their farm. Gunnie died in 1993 but Agnes continued with the ranching for several years with help from her children.

After graduating from St. Mary's High School, Agnes worked as a bookkeeper in Fredericksburg, so when her oldest son started his construction business, she helped him with his accounting and payroll. She was always there to lend a hand and a heart to all of her children, no matter what through the years.

She was very helpful with getting the St. John's Catholic Church established in Marble Falls and played the organ there for 40 years. She then started going to Queen of Angels Chapel in Spicewood where she played piano and organ for several years. Overall, she shared her skilled gift of musical talent for 69 years. She had such a strong faith and rarely missed church. She only missed playing for Midnight Mass one time due to bad weather. She was a meticulous seamstress, enjoyed her flowers, hummingbirds, gardening, cooking, baking and visiting with family and friends. She rarely met a stranger. She had so many special gifts and talents. She was loved by so many people whose life she had touched in some way.

Rev. Pedro Garcia-Ramirez officiated at the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on June 20, 2019 in St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Marble Falls with a reception and meal in the church hall. A funeral procession proceeded to the Stonewall Community Cemetery with an open casket viewing ceremony and burial service at 1 p.m. for local mourners. Pallbearers were Ned Ross, Grant Ross, Nancy Ross, Pat Ross, Myron Ross and Lloyd Dickey. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Ross, Cole Ross, Trenton Ross, Joseph Ross, Vance Pesl and Dave Jenkins. A reception was held at The Wine Cellar Bed and Breakfast, formerly the Nebgen home where Agnes and her siblings were born and raised.

Survivors include Ned Ross, Grant and Connie Ross, Pat and Sandi Ross, and Nancy Ross. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, nieces/nephews, great-nieces/nephews and great-great-nieces/nephews. She is also survived by one sister, Julia Dickey of San Antonio; and two brothers, Marvin Nebgen and Alton and Marilyn Nebgen of Stonewall.

Special thanks to all the angels that work at Granite Mesa Nursing Home for loving Agnes and taking extra care of her.

Memorial contributions can be sent in memory of Agnes Ross to St. John's Catholic Church, 105 Hwy 1431 E., Marble Falls, TX 78654.
