He was the eldest of six children born to George W and Bernice L Bennett. He received his formal education in the District of Columbia and graduated from Spingarn High School. After a courtship, he married Sarah A Crosson on September 19, 1964. He taught golf classes in the First Tee program to children and seniors at Enterprise Golf Course for Park and Planning in Maryland. He also caddied for many years at the Golf Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD, and played on the National Institute of Health golf team for many years. On October 14, 1993, he earned his diploma for completing the Goldsmith Training School of Golf Club Making and Club Repair in Austin, TX. He worked for Giant Foods for many years. He also worked in the printing department at the National Institute of Health, where he held various positions, ultimately retiring as Section Chief of the Printing Department after thirty-nine years of civil service. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Glenarden for over four decades, where he enjoyed singing in the Male Chorus. Surviving are his wife, Sarah; two sons, George Bennett and Robert Bennett (Miranda); daughter, Sandra Figgs (Earl); eight grandchildren, Keionia, Christopher, Dominick, Alex, Alexia, Brandon, Apryle, and Robert; two sisters, Carol Chancellor and Donna Bennett; three sisters-in-law, Lorrain and Alice Crosson, and Alma Price; two brothers-in-law, James A Crosson, Jr., and A G Chancellor; and seven great grandchildren.
