The third (known) child of physician James Alfred Burton and Penelope Ann Foree, Mary "Mollie" Burton was the first wife of Marcus Lindsey Belt and the mother of his first four children (William R., Marcus Jr., George M. and Joseph Shelby). After Mary's death in 1877(?), Mark Belt married Jennie Burton, Mary's younger sister. Jennie was the mother of Mildred Belt and Alfred Erskine Belt.
As of this writing, no grave marker or obituary has been found. Even the date of her death is known only by her husband's obituary which states that she died in 1877. The last known mention of her alive was in the Weekly Caucasian (Lexington, Missouri), 31 Oct 1874, Saturday, Page 3.
