DIES AT HOME IN STOCKPORT

STOCKPORT, Ia., Nov. 6–Mrs. Sarah DeWitt, 66, well known Stockport resident, passed away at her home Friday about 12:50 p.m. after a serious illness during the past three months.

Last rites will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Friends church in Stockport with Rev. Valentine Krumm in charge. Burial will be in Spencer cemetery near Stockport.

Mrs. DeWitt was born March 3, 1882, at Fairfield, the daughter of the late Elias and Sarah Wallace Ankrom. She was united in marriage November 8, 1899, to Frank F. DeWitt at Fairfield.

Her husband, a prominent Stockport resident and rural mail carrier in Van Buren county for many years, preceded her in death January 23, 1926.

Following the last rites for Mrs. DeWitt, a memorial service will be held for her son, Wallace, who lost his life during the recent war.

The military memorial service will be in charge of the Stockport American Legion post, with E.A. Piper, chaplain of the Fairfield Post, officiating.

Mrs. DeWitt had spent the last 47 years of her life in Stockport, having moved to this community in 1901 from Fairfield. She was a member of the Friends church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Gold Star mother.

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Minos Peters, Ft. Madison; Mrs. W.T. White, Fairfield; Mrs. Ray R. Watson, Stockport; Mrs. B.L. Black [sic], Osage, Iowa;
Oren [sic] F. DeWitt, Stockport; Harry C. DeWitt, Portland, Oregon; a fourth son, Wallace, was killed in action on May 1, 1943, during World War II. He was serving with the air corps.

Mrs. DeWitt is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Hayes, Portland, Oregon, and a brother, John T. Ankrom, Portland, Oregon.

The body is at the Weston Behner funeral home at Stockport.
