Actor. He was an actor in television and films, mostly playing villain roles such as the one he may be best known for, Windom Earle in "Twin Peaks" and the father of actress Cate Blanchett in the film "The Aviator." He grew up in Alberta, Canada where he studied drama and later attended the National Theatre School. He spent the first 7 years of his acting career at the Stratford Festival in front of a live audience on stage. From 1964 until his death in 2022 he took part in over 130 productions including "Brethren" 1976, "Liberace: Behind the Music" 1988, "Hiroshima" 1995, "The Covenant" 2006, and "The Middleman" 2021. His role as the Vice-President of the United States in the 2004 environmental disaster film "The Day After Tomorrow" caused some controversy due to his physical resemblance to the real Vice-President, Dick Cheney. He passed away at the age of 80 at his home.
