Benjamin W. (Ben) Smith, 66, husband of Josie Cochran Smith, of 101 Mary Street, died Monday, after an illness of ten months. Born in Stephens County, Ga., December 1, 1915, he was the son of the late Ernest B. and Pearl Collins Smith. He had lived in Greenville most of his life, and was a security officer with Norwich Pharmaceuticals, Inc. before his retirement. Mr. Smith was a member of Welcome Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army. Surviving also are three daughters, Mrs. Jewell S. Davis of Greenville, Mrs. Martha S. Baker of Powdersville, and Mrs. Kathy S. Mabry of Spartanburg; a sister, Mrs. Nora Lee Jackson of Greenville; a brother, Frank J. Smith of Greenville; three granddaughters and four grandsons; and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be 3 P.M. Wednesday at Welcome Baptist Church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. The family is at the residence. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.
