Final Rites For Daniel Sease Held Friday
Final rites for Daniel Sease, 93 year-old pioneer Greene County
residence who died last Tuesday at the home of his son, Ben near
Scranton, were conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, March 5, from the
Slininger chapel. The Rev. J.D. Payne, pastor of the Bayard and
Greenbrier Methodist churches, was in charge. Burial was made in the
Scranton township cemetery.
Music during the services was provided by Eugene Melson, soloist,
who sang "Ivory Palaces" and "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" accompanied by
Mrs. Dean Barker. Casket bearers were Oscar Amey, S.M. Taylor, Gus
Tucker, Elinar Johnson, L. Anderson and Charles Maile.
Daniel Sease, Son of Conrad and Mary Sease, was born January 8,
1855, in Henry County, Ill, and passed away March 2, 1948, in Greene
County, Iowa, at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 24 days.
On March 13, 1883 he was united to marriage to Lettie Mae Goodyear.
To this union were born seven daughters and five sons, a daughter Hazel,
having died in infancy.
Mr. Sease made his home near Scranton until 1911 when he and his
family moved to Mountain Grove, Mo., where they resided for 6 years, then
returning to Scranton. In 1918 they moved to Jefferson where he lived
until 1937 at which time he went to live with his son, Ben near Scanton.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, and will be greatly
missed by his family, friends and neighbors. In spite of his age he had
always been active until the last six months of his life.
He was proceeded in death by his wife in February, 1931, an infant
daughter, four brothers and two sisters.
Those who survive are his children, Mrs. Essie Sharr of Springfield
Ore., Percy of Genoa, Colo., Conrad of Rolfe, Raymond of Otho, Ben of
Scranton, Mrs Gladys Yocum of Thayer, Mo., Mrs. Cornelia Reberry of
Jefferson, Mrs Berdena Fawkes of Visalia, Calif., Mrs Eva Trumble of
Emmett, Idaho, Mrs. Mary Anderson of Statford, and Henry of Coope; a
sister, Mrs Tillie Moulds of Mountain Grove, Mo. And many grandchildren,
great grandchildren , other relatives and many friends.
