Glenda F. "Gwen" Bates, age 83, of Council Bluffs, passed away May 4, 2022 at Amelia Place.

Gwen was born August 5, 1938 in Avoca, Iowa to the late Arthur and Marian (Randall) Hickman. She married Donald Bates on August 20, 1958 in Council Bluffs. Gwen was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Hickman; mother and stepfather, Marian and Paul Muhs; 4 grandchildren, Stacy and Blaine Dooley, twins, Elizabeth and Christine Bates; son-in-law, Michael Dooley; brother, Lynn and sister, Marge.

Gwen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Don Bates; children, Julie (Mark) Fjare all of Council Bluffs, Lori (Don) Hotz of Warrensburg, Missouri, Steve Bates, Sharon Dooley both of Council Bluffs; 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Bates; sister, Virginia Nickles both of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family, Monday, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Graveside service and burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery. A lunch will follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center, 1350 E. Pierce St. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
