Vernon A. "Butch" Henschel, 76, of Cleveland died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday May 4, 2022 at his home from cancer. He was born in the Town of Meeme on November 24, 1945, son of the late Herbert & Hildegarde (Christel) Henschel. Butch was a graduate of Kiel High School with the class of 1964.

He was a proud veteran of the US Army, he attained the rank of Specialist First Class and served with the 305th TC Company in Virginia. During that time he was united in marriage to Jean Bubolz on October 14, 1967 at St. Dominic Catholic Church Sheboygan. After returning to Wisconsin he continued to work for Kohler Company in the enamel and foundry divisions. After 43 years at Kohler he and Jean retired on the same day to enjoy retirement together.

Butch was a lifelong member of St. James UCC, Town of Meeme. He was active with many things at church but he especially enjoyed working the grill and frying for the annual brat fry. Butch was well know for his grilling skills and would volunteer to fry for many organizations in the area including the Lions Club brat fry's and the Cleveland Fishing Derby. He was a member of the Cleveland Fish and Game, Walleye's For Tomorrow and the Northeastern Great Lakes Fishing Club. He had a great love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He would take trips to the U.P. and Canada to fish and hunt but he especially enjoyed his time at the family cottage on Shawano Lake. Butch had many years of wisdom and knowledge for hunting and fishing. He enjoyed talking with anyone he could to pass this knowledge on to the next person or generation. His "Vernisms" as his family and friends called them, were just another part of his love for family and the outdoors. In his younger years, Butch was involved with the FFA and had many fond memories of his experiences. He continued to stay involved with the FFA Alumni in later years.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years; Jean, Children; Scott (Robin) Henschel of Town of Mosel, Brenda (Tom) Weber of Brownstown, MI, Linda Lutzke (special friend Troy) of Valders, his grandchildren; Raymond Henschel, Allen Veldboom (Nicole), Kayla (Adam) Hemb, Thomas Weber Jr., Allison and Joseph Weber, Ashley and Ethen Lutzke, Butch was especially proud to have been able to meet his first great-grandchild; Oliver Wallace Hemb. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Shirley Henschel, Anita (Adam) Hartman, Eugene (Carol) Bubolz, Nancy Tewelis, Janice Free and Carol (Jack) Dahler along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
