Daniel was born in Jenkins County on October 9, 1948 to Donald Hinton Smith and Dorothy Dixon Smith. After graduating from Jenkins County High School in 1966, he began his working career with his father in his brick masonry business. In 1973, thanks to Mr. J. D. Kent and Mr. Britt Aaron, Daniel began his 37 year career with the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He was an avid woodworker and made beautiful pieces of furniture for his wife, daughter, and granddaughters. His favorite job during his life was being a PaPa to Emily and Ella Cate.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Dixon Smith, Donald Hinton Smith and Lorene Anderson Smith; brother, Donald Dixon Smith, Sr.
