Lawrence Clifford Thomas, age 79, known as "Cliff" passed away on his birthday, May 4, 2022, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born on May 4, 1943, in Otsego, Wyoming County, he was the son of the late James Wesley Thomas and Nellie Elizabeth Moore Thomas.
Cliff was a retired coal miner, working over eighteen years. He was of the Pentecostal Faith, having sat under the ministry of Rev. Meek "Mack" Hamilton and son James for over 30 years, and a member of Truth Assembly Ministries in Beckley. Cliff was a lifelong Christian. He loved playing the guitar in church, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Thomas and Robert Eugene Thomas; sisters, Louise Lester and Vera Faye Thomas; granddaughter Sarah Faith Thomas.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife Janie Lou McKinney Thomas, to whom he married on October 21, 1967, in Brenton, WV. Children: Elizabeth Lorene Thomas of Beckley, Steven Lawrence Thomas and wife Crystal of Beckley, and Jason Wesley Thomas and wife Amanda of Beckley; Siblings: Barbara Vest and husband Robert of Shady Spring, Mary Thomas of Beckley, and Deonne Bowen and husband Robert of Shady Spring. Grandchildren: Ella Claire Thomas of Beckley and Hope Elizabeth Thomas of Beckley.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday May 6, 2022, at 2 PM with Rev. Hibbard Hatfield officiating.
Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
