Edith Sheets was called to heaven on November 25, 2006 after a long fight for life at her home in Cocoa, Florida. She was 73 years young, the daughter of the late Fred Corl and Mary Schouten of Homer, NY, and the granddaughter of the late Eugene and Caroline Corl and the late Benjamin and Viola Schouten all of Homer, New York.

She was a longtime resident of Ithaca and Trumansburg, New York, until her retirement, which took her and her husband to Cocoa, Florida, where they enjoyed a second home.

During her retirement, she enjoyed such activities as walking with her friends, swimming, garage sales, auctions, and bingo. She is a member of "The Red Hat Association" and was loved and respected by many in her retirement community. She loved nature, gardening and the outdoors; she could fish and hunt with the best of them. She dearly loved her "Happy Days" club and they loved her.

She touched many lives and gave to all. Family was her number one priority and she would put their well being above her own. Her close friends were not treated as friends but rather as members of her family.

She held a special place in her heart for the less fortunate and particularly the mentally challenged and actively participated in programs providing services and a home to the mentally challenged.

While supporting her children, Ithaca residents will remember her as their waitress for many years at "Joes Restaurant", "The College Spa" and "The Royal Court" restaurants where she was not just a waitress but was a loved member of the owner's families.

She will be missed as a kind, loving and caring mother, sister, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and the caring friend that she was.

She is preceded in death by her son, John E Perry, Jr.; her granddaughter, Wendy Oltz; her brothers, Fay Corl, Fred Corl, Richard Corl; and her sisters, Edna Shutts, Martha Ward, and Shirley Little.

She is survived by her 2nd husband, Richard; her daughters, Dawn (Chuck) Poupard of Ithaca, Phyllis Perry of Virginia, Doreen (Jim) Anderson of Florida, Michelle (Mark) Trevits of New York, Sue Miller of West Virginia; and a son, Wayne Perry of Florida; her sister, Dorothy Pierce of New York, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is a grandmother to fifteen grandchildren and great-grandmother to thirteen great-grandchildren and one additional great-granddaughter due in the spring.

Though there will be no formal funeral service, please come celebrate her life with us at a Tribute to her, to be held in Clary Hall at Holy Cross Church, 375 George Rd., Freeville, NY 13068 on Saturday, December 2, 2006, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m
