By 1880 Amos, a machinist, is married to wife Catherine Mary (Kate) Lewis (1851-1899) and they are living in the Village of Woodbury & Hewlett in the town of Hempstead. They had four children between 1881 and 1888: Edna M, Howard L, Helen G and Florence C. All noted as born in Richmond Hill, Queens County. On the 1892 census in the Town of Jamaica, Amos is a merchant. His wife died 13 Aug 1899 in Queens and was buried with her family in Connecticut.


On the 1900 census, Amos, age 55, widower, is living at 44 Lefferts Ave. with his four children and a servant. Occupation: Mech & Consulting Engineer. In 1910, Amos, 65, is living as a boarder at 260 W 44th St. Manhattan, occupation: mechanical engineer.


On his father's side the Aller family dates back to Johan "Peter" Aller b. in 18716 in Rhineland, Germany and died in Hunterdon County New Jersey on 17 Apr 1778. On his mother's side, the Gustin family, includes Pvt John Gustin, abt 1760 - 1830, soldier in the American Revolution, lived in New Jersey, and prior generations in the Gustin Family Burial Ground in Sussex NJ with John Gustin, b. in Lynn, Mass in 1691.
