Eastport – Sharon Ann Cook (Bainesy), 72, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022 at her home surrounded by family following a courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born in Eastport on August 13, 1949, daughter of John (Buddy) and Louise (Blanchard) Baine.
After graduating from Shead Memorial High School, Class of 1968, Sharon worked for Holmes Fish Factory, R&M IGA and made wreaths. In 1986 she started working at The Quoddy Tides, a career that spanned over 35 years. On October 4, 1986, she married her love, Mark Cook. Sharon was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and the WACO Coffee Club where she enjoyed her morning coffee and gossip with the girls. She enjoyed motorcycle rides with her husband Mark and watching Lifetime movies with her cats. She was also very proud of her participation in the Buccaneers where she and the drill team paraded and performed for Lady Bird Johnson. She was an avid protector of animals and was given the nicknames of "Mother Nature" and "Crazy Cat Lady" which she wore both proudly. She was also a proud member of the Wayfarers Ladies where she participated in many fund raisers for Sarah's House, a Cancer hospitality House in Holden.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents. Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Mark Cook of Eastport; three children, Shelly Mulholland and husband Keith of Manchester, NH, John Kilby of Eastport, and Kris Kilby and wife Leigh of Windham; six grandchildren, Justin and Deven Mulholland of Manchester, NH, Taylah Kilby of Harrison, Kaylah Kilby of Veazie, and Ryleigh and Arya Kilby of Windham; her sister Cindy Baine and companion Ray Moore of Eastport; her brother Michael Baine and companion Sherry Camick of Perry; special nieces and nephews, Kristi, Brandi, Melissa, Tandra and David; numerous close and dear friends including Judy Turner and Roberta Thompson; her feline companions Gibbs, Smokey, Abby and Sam; and her canine companion Zoey.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Hillside Cemetery in Eastport. In leiu of flowers, a donation can be sent to either Sarah's House of Maine or Paws of Calais. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
