Ted Mattocks was the son of Christopher Herbert "Mr. Kitt" Mattocks (1869-1963), and Mittie Melonie (Dudley) Mattocks (1879-1979). He enrolled at Duke University in Durham, NC, in 1932, and received his Medical Degree. He served in the US Army in WWII. His siblings were: Daisy Beatrice Mattocks (1899-1989), Robert Lee Mattocks (1902-1968), Garland Deloach Mattocks (1906-1990), Wade Edison Mattocks (1910-1911).
