Sarah Elizabeth Bates, age 22, of Charleston, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at her residence.
Funeral services honoring her life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 7426 Country Club Road, Mattoon, Illinois 61938 with Bishop Tony Oliver officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Schilling Funeral Home.
Sarah was born on June 23, 1999 in Mesquite, TX, and is the daughter of Benjamin and Melanee (Robertson) Bates. They survive.
Other survivors include her sister, Katherine Bates; brothers, Thomas, Samuel, and Daniel Bates; grandparents, Dave and Debbie Cason, Larry and Cleora Bates, and Ralph and Rhonda Robertson; 18 aunt and uncles; and 31 cousins.
Sarah was preceded in death by her biological mother, Julie Renee Cason Bates; uncle, Mark Steven Day; and grandmother, Sherry Lynne Day.
Sarah completed and graduated from Charleston High School and the Illinois Assistive Technology Program. Sarah was a volunteer for Mark Twain Kindergarten as a supervisor; she also sorted and stocked groceries at B & D Groceries, recycled at LIFE Academy, cleaned a church in Mattoon with her friends as well as other various jobs around Mattoon High School. Sarah enjoyed completing puzzles, watching movies like Frozen or Frozen 2, Sound of Music, Enchanted, or Phineas and Ferb, reading, singing, dancing, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. Sarah was always happy and will be remembered for her positive outlook. She and her beautiful smile will be greatly missed.
