Shannon Funeral Home Obituary

Paul McClain, age 76, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Paul was born to Elmer and Eva May (Noel) McClain on February 8, 1931. He had three brothers and one sister. Two of his brothers, Howard (the oldest) and Dennis (the youngest) preceded him in passing. His sister, Pauline Rogers, lives in Taylorsville and his brother, Larry McClain, lives in Mt. Eden.

Paul was baptized at 9 years of age. He was a member of the Briar Ridge Christian Church until July 7, 1968 when he helped start Shelby Christian Church with thirteen other members. He was an Elder and Sunday School Teacher for over 45 years, most recently teaching the Church Builders Sunday School Class.

He had a dairy and tobacco farm at Shelbyville, retiring from farming in 1990. In 2001, he retired from the Shelby County Parks Department where he was the Maintenance Supervisor. To all who knew him, he was a Saint.

Paul was a wonderful, loving husband, father of three, grandfather of nine and a great-grandfather of one. Paul married Helen (Monroe) on November 21, 1953. To their children, Vickie Ann Hollingsworth (husband, Scott), Paul Mitchell McClain (wife, Jennifer Stivers) and Stephen Kent McClain (wife, Libby Kidwell), he was the most kind-hearted and selfless person.

His grandchildren, Carissa Sandford (Randy), Jordan McClain, Cynthia Gray (Duane), Roy Hollingsworth, Amy Hollingsworth, Jhessi McClain, Michala McClain, Stephanie McClain and Wesley McClain, offered these words; sweet, very wonderful and caring, one heck of a good hand shaker, best hugger, very nice, easy to talk to, skinny, and fun.

He was the great-grandfather of one, Chase Edward Gray, age 3, who couldn't figure out how great he was, saying he was great, great, great!

Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2007 at Shelby Christian Church, 2375 Frankfort Rd., Shelbyville, Kentucky. Funeral services are 11 a.m., Saturday, December 22, 2007 also at Shelby Christian Church with Brother Dave Hamlin and Brother Kenneth Shouse officiating. Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Shelby Christian Church Building Fund.
