Captain Benjamin Pierce settled on his father's considerable estate and managed it after his father's death in 1676. Benjamin had been named executor of his father’s estate. He was a wealthy landowner, with holdings in excess of 1000 acres. He also owned and ran a saw-mill that was erected on a river running through his lands. Like his father before him, Benjamin was appointed Captain of the local militia.

On February 5, 1678, two years after his father's death, Benjamin married Martha Adams, the daughter of John Adams (NEHGR 33:411). They had these children: Jerusha, Benjamin, Ebenezer, Persis, Caleb, Thomas, Adams, Jeremiah, and Elisha. Benjamin's first wife, Martha Adams, died 29 Dec 1717. On July 21, 1718, Benjamin married Mrs. Elizabeth Perry, daughter of Isaac Lobdell and Martha Ward, and widow of William Perry, with whom she had 12 children. Benjamin and Elizabeth had no children.

Benjamin deeded his eldest son, Benjamin (1683-1772) a major portion of his land holdings.

His will was dated 13 October 1730 at Scituate. His last child, Elisha, was given the remaining land holdings. Elisha and his brother, Thomas, were the sole executors to their father's will. The other sons had been given land prior to this will. Benjamin’s will names his wife Elisabeth, sons Elisha, Thomas, Ebenezer, Jeremiah, Benjamin, and Caleb. He also names his daughter Jerusha Bailey, wife of Joseph Bailey. A daughter, Persis, and possibly a daughter Martha, and a son Adams had died prior to 1715. Benjamin also bequeathed items to grandsons, Benjamin Pierce, and Ebenezer Bailey.

HERE LYES BVRIED YE BODY OF CAPT BENIAMIN PEIRCE WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE MAY 8TH 1730 IN YE 73 YEAR OF HIS AGE

Gravesite Details

Groveland Cemetery slate engraved gravestone shows he died at age 73. It is possible that this age at death is incorrect, and his death might have been at age 84 (Savage Vol.1 p.4) Giving a birth year of about 1647 which is feasible.
