Walter was employed as a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service for 18 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the VFW #2916-Brooklyn and Optomist International - Edmondson heights & Westview Club. Walter enjoyed making Forever Calendars and watching sports.
Walter's survivors include his loving wife Sandra L. (Grafton) Burke; loving daughters, Mary Burke and husband, Rod Hayward, Debora Burke and husband Yoshi Arima, and Barbara Harper; devoted granddaughter, Jennifer L. Harper and huband Byron.
Interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
