Harold (Hal) Oliver Bailey of Vancouver, Washington, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022. Hal was a beloved husband, dad, papa, son, brother, uncle, friend and coach.
Hal was born in Dent, Minnesota, on October 12, 1929, to Ella Tetzlaff and Harold Austin Bailey. After graduating from high school in 1949, Hal joined the Army Air Corp (Air Force). While stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, he met and married the love of his life, Carol LaCroix of Onawa, Iowa, Their love spanned over 6 decades - his death was one week before they celebrated their 63rd Anniversary. Hal and Carol had four children, AnnaMarie, Gregory, Kristin and Kelly.
Hal's Air Force career took him across the globe from Alaska to France, Spain to Washington DC. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star. At 20 years of service, he attained the top enlisted rank of E-9. His most memorable assignment was with the Pacific Communications Inspector General Team while stationed in Hawaii. His final assignment was at McChord AFB, Washington, thus ending his 30-year career with the Air Force. After "retiring" he worked thirteen years for General Electric in Kent, WA, and then at the McChord Golf Course in Tacoma, Washington.
Throughout his life Hal was an avid sports fan, player and coach. He loved softball, bowling, football, golf, hunting and fishing. His four children and six grandchildren Geoff, Jordyn, Miranda, Dusti, Levi and Griffin, plus two great granddaughters, Kennedy and Madilyn, meant the world to him. Hal is, and will be deeply missed by his family.
A graveside Military service was held at Willamette National Cemetery located at 11800 SE Mt. Scott Boulevard, Happy Valley, Oregon on May 4, 2022.
