Born on February 6, 1946, to Harry Alphonse Mahler and Helen Marie (nee Mahoney) Sullivan. Grandparents were Marie Braendly & Herman Westendorf, but Hans Mahler later married Marie and adopted Harry. Mother's parents were: Agnes Sullivan Mahoney Collins and Denis Joseph Mahoney, both from County Cork, Ireland.
Dawn was born in Vallejo, California, but the family soon moved back near family in both Bayonne, NJ, and Staten Island, New York. Harry moved the family to Pensacola, Florida (Navy) sometime in the late 50's/early 60's. Dawn graduated from Escambia High School in 1966. She married Captain USMC Dalton Ray Ellis, Jr. in 1967.
They and the family lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, and finally Texas before Dawn and Dalton divorced in 1986. Dawn moved herself and the kids to Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1986 to be closer to Harry (her father). She worked tirelessly for many years taking care of her children before succumbing to congestive heart failure and kidney failure due to mis-managed diabetes.
