DORSET - At Gladstone, July 4th, John Everingham Dorset, aged 43
Masterton, July 5. John Dorset, a settler at Tewhiti, near Gladstone, was killed yesterday by a tree falling on him. He went out in the afternoon to work in the bush and not returning, search parties were organised, when his body was found with the trunk of a tree lying across it. From the surroundings it appears that he felled one tree, which in falling brought another behind him over with it. Deceased was the second son of the late William Dorset, formerly Provincial District Auditor and brother to Arthur Dorset, secretary of the Education Board. He was 44 years old and married to a daughter of Mr A. W. Renall, Mayor of Masterton. He leaves a widow and sic children. The inquest will probably be held to-morrow.
Wairarapa Daily Times , 7 July 1888
Funeral Notice. The friends of the late John Everingham Dorset are respectfully invited to attend his funeral which will leave his late residence at Gladstone at 12 noon on Sunday next, July 8, arriving at Masterton cemetery at 3 o'clock. T. Jago, Undertaker,
