Betty Jean Anderson (Reil) 88, dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully at her home on April 19,2022. She was born September 27, 1933 to the late Bill and Fern Reil in Pilger NE and was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Dean Anderson and her sister Cindy Reil. Betty was born on a farm, after her father rode into town on his horse to alert the Dr. about her impending birth. Betty started her schooling in a small country school in Wisner NE and at the age of 7, her family moved to a farm in Rosalie where she continued her schooling until she graduated and started her first job at Pender Creamery doing office work. Shortly after she married her high school sweetheart Wes. They began farming and Bonnie, Danny and Lori arrived between 1952 and 1956. In 1957, she and Wes moved their family to Southern CA where she remained the rest of her life. Armed with a letter from her aunt describing California as "the land of opportunity" and $300. Betty and Wes built a good life. In 1962 Pamela arrived to complete their family. Through the years Betty worked in her children's school cafeteria, provided in home child care, sold insurance, worked in retail at Nordstrom and more. After she joined DiCarlo's bread company, Betty rose to management of the regional bakery thrift stores. She thrived on building an environment of teamwork with her employees to keep their customers happy. Betty's family and friends were vitally important to her. She was known for her hospitality including home cooked meals, delicious pies and a piece of dark chocolate by your bedside. She had a talent for cake decorating and made many gorgeous cakes for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and especially winning. Her seamstress skills encompassed everything from Halloween costumes to intricately embroidered linens and more. Eleven years after Wes died, Betty moved to the community of Hillcrest in LaVerne which she embraced. The many social activities suited her energetic personality and friendliness. The dear friends she made were always near and they became even closer during the pandemic. She loved working at Hillcrest's thrift store, taking their various classes, and attending horse racing card games. As Betty aged, the breadth and depth of Hillcrest's services allowed her to move from independent living, to assisted living and to a unit to recover from surgeries and falls as needed.
