Ruth's first job was at Dunn and Bradstreet in Kansas City, where she served on the telephone exchange. In 1956, the family moved to St. Louis, where Ruth completed her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Missouri, while working as a realtor and being a full-time mother. In 1969, the family returned to Overland Park, where Ruth was best known as the friendly clerk in the Accessories Department of Harzfeld's Department Store. In 1978, Ruth and John moved to Houston, Texas, where they started their business, J & R Scale Company. After retiring from the business in 2002, the couple moved to Owasso, Oklahoma, to be closer to their son and his family. In 2015, Ruth and John completed the Journey when they made their home in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Ruth remained close to her friends from Rosedale and was a regular at the reunions and luncheons.
Ruth's Journey is celebrated by her son, Jim Robertson, his wife, Cindi Robertson, two grandsons, John (JD) Robertson and Ian Robertson, two great-grandsons, Arlo and Syrus Robertson. Ruth shared a very deep bond with her nieces, Frankie Walker and Carol Rohrer, and Frankie's husband, John Walker.
Ruth lost her brother, James (Jim), in World War II. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Lilly (Bigler) Miller, great-niece Karen Rohrer, sister Marilou (Miller) Houser, beloved husband John Robertson, and dear friend and niece Frankie Walker.
Ruth will end her Journey at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on May 21, followed by a reception in the Chapel. As always, everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers, Ruth would prefer a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society.
