William Winfred Price Jr.
October 1, 1946 - April 27, 2022

William Winfred Price, Jr., 75, of Black Hawk, SD, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2022 at Fort Meade VA Hospital in Sturgis, SD surrounded by family.

Bill was born in 1946 to Mary Lucille (Lynch) and William Winfred Price, Sr. in South Carolina.

Bill began working at a young age, mostly in the peach orchards and farms near his home in Pauline, SC. He never liked peaches after that. He was known as Hot Shot to his family. He graduated from Dorman High School in Roebuck, SC and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Boston and went through the Panama Canal 6 times. He was proud of his military service.

Upon honorable discharge, he traveled to SD with his Navy buddy, Rod Sterrett, where he found love at first sight with Rod's sister, Jan. He attended welding school at Mitchell Technical College in Mitchell, SD and became a boiler maker by trade. He married Jan (Sterrett) in Gann Valley, SD in the fall of 1971. From there, they began their life together in Yankton, SD. His work took them on a gypsy lifestyle, relocating to various cities in AR, OK, and eventually back to SD. He was known as Wild Bill to his co-workers. He spent his working years on the road to make a living for his family.

Bill and Jan retired in Black Hawk, SD in 2008. He enjoyed reading westerns, working outside on their property, helping with the garden, attending local events, Taco Tuesdays, fishing, camping, traveling to new destinations, and visiting family in their RV. We enjoyed many memorable vacations with our parents. They enjoyed getting the family together and trying new things. Jan and Bill just celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in the fall of 2021. Bill was incredibly sad after the loss of his wife on April 12th, 2022.

Bill is predeceased by his wife, Janis Kaye (Sterrett) Price; parents, William and Lucille Price; and sisters, Mary Francis Robbins and Eunice Dianne Fuller.

Survivors include his daughters; son; brother; sister; and 4 grandchildren.

Special Thank You To all friends and family who provided us with love and support through this difficult time.

Cremation and interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
