MORE KANSANS' BODIES BACK

Remains of 4,504 Americans who lost their lives during World War 2 have been returned to the United States from the Pacific area aboard the United States Army Transport Sergeant Jack J. Penleton.

Armed forces dead interred in temporary military cemeteries in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands are among those brought back to this country.

A total of 70 remains were returned upon instruction of kin residing in Kansas.

SGT. AUGUST WILLIAM DOAN

Preston--Final rites for Sgt. August William Doan, of Preston, who died May 16, 1944, of injuries suffered while serving at Milne, Bay, New Guinea, will be held at Greenlawn cemetery, Pratt at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The body will arrive here early Tuesday and will remain at the American Legion home in Preston until 2 p.m. The Preston American Legion post will be in charge.

Sgt. Doan, lifetime resident of the Preston and Iuka neighborhoods, was injured fatally when an army truck tire he was inflating exploded, the lock rim striking him on the jaw. He had served nearly four years.

Survivors include a son, Chester, 7; a daughter, Mary Francis, 5, the remarried widow, Mrs. Thelma Warner, Great Bend; three brothers, George and Garland, both Preston, and Jack, Larned; one sister, Mrs. Mary Ellen Honeman, Iuka. The father, Chester F. Doan, died Feb. 22, 1948 and the mother died last July 6.
